What it costs to run a Porchsite site, and how to keep it that way

The free plan has no bill, but it has daily limits. Here is what happens if you go over, and what a paid plan changes.

A Porchsite site runs on your own Cloudflare account. Here is what that costs, in plain terms.

The free plan has no bill

Cloudflare’s free limits are account-wide and daily. How many page views a day your site can serve depends on its size. Small sites can serve tens of thousands of views a day. A site with 200 entries can serve about 2,900.

Going over stops the site, with no charge

If you go over a free limit, the site stops until the limits reset at midnight UTC. Nothing is charged. One busy site can stop the other sites on the same account. Visitors see a “temporarily unavailable” page until the reset.

A paid plan removes the limits but has no spending cap

A paid Cloudflare plan lifts the free limits, but it does not cap what you can be billed. Cloudflare’s usage alerts are email only and arrive about a day late. If you upgrade, set a budget alert first.

Self-hosting costs about $5 a month, flat

If you want costs to stay predictable, you can rent a small server for about $5 a month from a range of providers and run Porchsite there. Steps are in the self-hosting guide.

Your assistant never spends your money

Your assistant never spends money or changes your plan without your explicit yes. It tells you all of this before setup.
